Speaking in front of a crowd may not be an easy thing to do. It takes a lot of practice and confidence if you want to be able to deliver an effective speech.

After delivering my first speech for an Internet marketing workshop recently, I’ve learned a lot of things about communication and I want to share this with you.

Here they are:

If you are worried about stage fright, then my best advice for you is not to think so much about what you are going to say. Just do the necessary preperations but before the speech, don’t rehearse too much because when the time comes, you are going to be put under pressure. Just talk naturally, as though you are speaking to a friend.

Don’t talk too fast. There is a tendency to run through your slides very quickly but I’ve learned that the audience will need to take time to absorb what you are saying. I had 45 minutes to do my talk and I prepared 40 slides. I thought I would exceed my time slot, but I went too fast thinking I had to run through quickly and at the end of the presentation, I had 10 minutes left (lol)…

Always ask questions because it engages the crowd. If you do not ask questions, your speech is no different when it comes to talking to a white wall. Interact!

Look into other people’s eyes and not your slides.

Tell funny jokes. When you tell jokes, it helps people to ease up. It will help YOU to ease up as well so try and prepare some good jokes before your presentation.

Lastly, if you can’t remember what to say, don’t over clutter your slides with words, just use a few key points on your slides and link them in your mind. Linking is a good way to remember what you want to say compared to reading it directly from your slides.

This is one of my favorite self-improvement books.

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People applies to every single area of your life, whether it is in Internet marketing, fitness, spiritual… it also works no matter what your job description is - as an employee, a boss, a self-employed small business owner, an investor or a retiree, it is always helpful to reflect on the principles within the book and set your goals for the next year.

For me personally, I’ve set my goals for the next year. There’s only one and a half months away from next year, about 46 days to go.

I’ve found that you actually need to prepare ahead of time in order to stand a better chance at fulfilling your new years resolutions.

It’s only human to set a bunch of beautiful goals, and fall short of it a month or two weeks later. Some people even fail to keep up with it for ONE day - because their habits are not aligned with their resolutions.

In my opinion, you should at least set your goals one month before the year rolls over into the next. It takes people at least 21 repetitive days of doing a task before it becomes a habit. Setting your resolutions on the 1st of January is too late - your habits won’t allow you to change.

So be sure to “Begin With The End In Mind”, set your goals now for your Internet marketing business and your life - you will see a huge difference in your motivation and drive to succeed!

Fire Sales are getting popular nowadays, you get the chance to make fast money, put it together quickly and get tons of people to promote your product for a good cause. What could be better?

I’ll tell you what’s bad… it is when you turn your fire sale into a ‘me-too’ fire sale. You try and jump on the fire sale bandwagon but you do not have a completely unique concept and angle, and you try and manipulate people into donating money into your paypal account for any lame excuse.

In my opinion, I strongly believe that in order to be successful in a fire sale, you must observe the following:

Don’t run a fire sale for the sake of running a fire sale. If all you have are a bunch of rehased, ‘un-targeted’ products, you will only be wasting your time devaluing not only your clients, but other marketer’s patience as well. Make no mistake about it - there are already a lot of fire sales running every single year. If you do not want to be accused of being a Me-Too wannabe, then you must have products that really benefit others.

Also, remember not to run your fire sale with only money in mind. You must give others the opportunity to build their lists or give a good incentive why others should promote you.

Focus on your target market. I’ve done this myself - promoting a fire sale to a unique and targeted niche market. I’ve themed all the products that will actually be useful for the subscribers rather than a hodge-podge of old E-books. (In my country, they will call it ‘Rojak’ meaning a mixture of all kinds of food lumped into a single bowl - with tasty sauce!)

Having an end in mind. Yes, we all try and come up with a reason why we want to run one in the first place, but make mo mistake about it - don’t give people a lame excuse like buyinig a new fan or getting some extra cash. Of course, charity is always a good way to position your fire sale as it really tugs on the heartstrings of people.

So don’t be a ‘me-too’ fire sale junkie - be different, and be better!

There is something I want to share with you about product launches because this is critical to your online success and it will make the difference between making thousands of extra dollars and losing them.

Last week, I conducted a launch called MLM Fire Sale and I chose a payment gateway - Pay Dot Com.

We started the launch and we sold about 50 copies in first three hours because everything was running smoothly (or so it seemed). We then proceeded into the next day and you wouldn’t believe what happened… PayDotCom went down during the 2nd day of our launch and my partner and I were horrified as our sales came to a grinding halt!

Can you believe that Pay Dot Com went DOWN for about 6 hours? Imagine what would happen if it went down on the first day of the launch?!

To be honest, the 6 hour downtime didn’t affect the overall execution adversely as the results much because I was quite satisfied with the results, But if you are thinking about running your own product launch, make sure you CHOOSE a good payment processor.

You see, I have nothing against Mike Filsaime and I really respect the great work he has done in the Internet marketing community, but I’m just going to focus on the problem and not the person - to get things straight. I had to do a lot of ‘fire fighting’ and it was no fault of my own!

If you want to host your affiliate program, either do it on ClickBank or install JV Manager to manage it yourself. Clickbank has good support and JVM will help you to manage it well if you want to do everything yourself.

On the other hand, when you are choosing a method to accept payment, I would choose 2 Check Out (2CO) over Paypal anyday.

Last year, Vince Tan, Gobala Krishnan and Melvin Ng launched the biggest fire sale of 2007 - Send Us To U.S. and it generated $69,000 in 7 days. However, Paypal limited their account in spite of Vince calling them to inform about the launch.

Imagine… 69 grand frozen and you can’t pay your affiliates at all… that would be disasterous. Thankfully Paypal released their money.

Getting your affiliate program frozen is really bad, not because you lose the sales per se, but also because you will disappoint your affiliates for sending traffic to your site! But I was glad for one thing, the partners who promoted me were very patient and understanding and the 6 hour downtime really didn’t affect the launch much as the affiliate sales continued to come in thanks to the cookies in place.

Remember - choose wisely because you don’t want to be blamed for other people’s failures…

Many Internet marketing newbies complain that their sites or blog posts do not get ranked well on Google.

It happens when people do not do enough SEO work.

The underlying reason is they are not consistent and persistent when it comes to SEO.

You see, SEO is not something that you do ‘once and for all’, it is on going and you will be able to get better rankings if you are willing to allocate a little bit of time each day to build links.

Here is a very simple plan that will allow you to get very good results without spending too much time and money.

Write 1 article a day. Article directory submissions provide precious link juice and targeted traffic for your sites. Don’t try and dump a whole bunch of articles at one shot, try and spread it out over a period of time by writing one article a day and submitting them consistently everyday. If you feel that writing one a day is daunting, then try once in two days. After a month, you would have submitted 15-30 articles which will give you good rankings and traffic.

Leverage on Squidoo and Hub Pages. Remember those articles you have written for your article directory submissions? Use them to create a Squidoo lens and a hub page. It will help you save a lot of time if you re-use your articles. Squidoo has a page rank of 8 and it will help your site or blog when it comes to ranking well.

Make sure you bookmark all your posts consistently (write one and bookmark three - it is very simple). If you have installed the ’share this’ plugin for your blog, you will have easy access to a bunch of Social Bookmarking sites that you can easily spread the word. I highly recommend using Digg, Stumble Upon and Propeller (if you are short of time) because these three will give you lots of traffic and authority.

Remember, the key is not to get bogged down with too much work, keep it simple and achievable and as you consistently do a little everyday, you will accomplish a lot at the end of the month (which is more SEO work than what most people do in a year).

Internet marketing promises us time, rewards, fame and freedom. But the biggest danger about the Internet marketing lifestyle is that it will often eat our normal, personal lives.

Here are a few examples of Internet marketing lifestyles that are detrimental to our lives, and what we should do about it:

Neglecting Exercise.

One of the biggest hazards of Internet marketing is that most people spend too much time in front of the computer while neglecting their exercise routines. Although lack of exercise is prevalent in most office jobs, Internet marketing is even more ‘dangerous’ because marketers barely even get up sometimes. They usually have everything they need on their desk or on their computer. At least office personnel get up and gossip at the water cooler… Look at the size of your belly and see your jeans still fit…If you can’t discipline yourself to get in shape (in spite of all the time freedom), by all means, get a personal trainer to enforce discipline. Trust me on this, it is better to pay a personal trainer compared to a doctor.

Eating too much fast food.

This is another big problem. When you are so busy creating products, building blogs and contacting JV partners, what happens when you get hungry? Dominos and McDonalds may seem like a very short term solution but you have to understand that eating proper food with good nutrition will give you more energy and hence, more time in the long run.If you can’t get good food, maybe you can try Bistro MD. Otherwise, make sure you prepare good food in advance so you can heat it up later.

Not meeting people.

Believe it or not, there is a tendency for some people are prone to become socially inept due to a lack of communication with the outside world. You may be a king or queen when it comes to making money online, but when it comes to the real world, nobody gives a jack who you are. Don’t be all ‘high and mighty’ when it comes to dealing with people because we are all human beings after all. Secluding yourself is one of the fastest ways to insanity. Furthermore, being at home all the time does NOT mean that you are spending a lot of time with your loved ones, so don’t use it as an excuse when your spouse throws a tantrum about you not spending enough time with them (compared to your computer).Try and offer to buy people lunch so that you can meet up with them if they are working. You might even get good inspiration or ideas when you get out of your house and meet people. Another solution is to team up with local Internet marketers and do projects together.

Here’s what happened:

In Malaysia, we withdraw funds from our Paypal account through a debit card. Normally, the transaction takes 2-3 days to complete on Paypal’s end and another 3-4 days for the banks to receive the money. In total, it takes a week for all the funds to arrive.

One day, I went to the bank only to discover that the funds haven’t arrive after 8 working days. Thinking it’s the bank’s problem, I called the banks to search their records to find any trace for the transaction.

Nothing.

I checked again the next day and it still shows the same number.

Until I finally logged in to my Paypal account and I saw that the withdrawal transaction is still pending after 8 working days.

Irregular activities do happen once in awhile so instead of waiting, I finally contacted the customer support via email to check on the issue. They got back with me after 24 hours saying that they will process the transaction within 5-7 working days. After another 5 days of waiting again, it still shows pending.

Frustrated, I decided to call them directly through the phone. I called them twice to find out what was wrong and apparently, the transaction got lost in the process from the technical department to the financial department. They had to contact the higher authority to get to the bottom of things.

I still haven’t got my money today but I’ve learned one very important lesson.

You have to be there to make sure things are running smoothly.

Do not wait until it is too late before contacting customer support. If you have an issue, make sure you settle it ASAP to prevent any further problems.

Although you must not make a nuisance out of yourself or act like an a**, you have to be firm and assertive when addressing your problems to customer support. If you are too soft or if you are not specific enough, they won’t budge at all unless you push them.

Always take the initiative to follow up on your problems. The customer support tickets might go missing when it gets passed through the chain of command. Proper follow up ensures that things get done and there is accountability.

Never make assumptions that things will always go well.

Above all, keep a close eye on things. Whether it is your finances, outsourced work or even your personal life - make sure you fix things before they are irreparable.

A simple ad in an E-book can increase the number of sales one can get through marketing resell rights products.

One of the strengths of resell rights and private label rights is the fact that you can place an ad within the book to drive traffic to other sites that allows you to build your subscribers or generate sales beyond your circle of influence.

When you give Master Resell Rights or No Restriction Private Label Rights to an E-book, someone else who gets their hands on it will be able to market the book to their subscribers and their subscribers can market to others as well. This gives your ads a lot of exposure, especially when big name marketers are promoting your E-books to their lists. Therefore, you don’t need a huge list to get started, all you need to do is leverage on other people’s lists.

An Ad can be placed before the table of contents or at the end of the book. These are places that maximizes visibility and increases the chances that people will click on your ads.

Here is a good example of a good ad:

A good ad incorporates the use of Johnson Boxes. You must also summarize the benefits in point form and use the words ‘click here’ (these two words are actually very important because it solicits immediate action) to entice people to go to your site.

Remember, you must promote relevant products in your ad. The more related the product, the higher your chances of more clicks.

You can also giveaway these books at giveaway events or contribute them as bonuses for fire sales to maximize traffic as well.

Giveaway events are very exciting events that you can use to build your mailing lists and make money at the same time. Here are a couple of tips you can use to maximize the benefits of participating in a giveaway event:

Giveaway events are very exciting events that you can use to build your mailing lists and make money at the same time. Here are a couple of tips you can use to maximize the benefits of participating in a giveaway event:

(1) Offer a compelling gift

This is a no-brainer… but some people tend to forget that you just can’t slap on ANY gift as a contributor and expect subscribers to beat a path to your doorstep. Put yourself in the position of the person selecting the download - does this product benefit ME? In the ‘make money online’ niche, your gift should focus on giving someone education on how to make more money, or a product that helps people to save time/money/effort in their business (e.g. PLR E-books, graphics, compelling software).

(2) Choose a striking preview picture

Another important criteria when it comes to selecting your gift - you must have a striking book cover or preview picture. Remember, the person on the other end are scanning through tons of gifts and you only get one shot to make an impression… otherwise you are just a tiny voice in a large crowd that gets no attention - no matter how much value your gift is offering.

(3) Join smaller giveaways

Not all giveaways are created equal. In my opinion, I prefer to join smaller, mini-giveaways compared to huge blowouts. Bigger isn’t necessarily better because there is too much competition. If you were looking for gifts, you probably would not try and download each and every single gift in a huge giveaway. If you entered a keyword into Google, do you think you will check every site beyond the 3rd page? I don’t think so… so don’t expect to get many subscribers if you are ranked on page 37 in a huge giveaway. Preferably choose a giveaway that places your gift on the first page.

(4) Setup a tell-a-friend script

It is a known fact that tell-a-friend scripts (e.g. Viral Friend Generator) increases opt-in rates by a certain percentage. If you are already getting traffic to your landing page, you might as get your script up and running to increase your number of subscribers - otherwise it would be a waste of traffic.

(5) The One-Time-Offer

Setting up OTOs is also a good idea because you will want to maximize the traffic you are getting and turn them into sales.

(6) Put up a P.S. right next the the download link

Once they have reached the download page, use a P.S. to lead them to another sales page or an affiliate link. The subscriber is already in a ‘clicking’ mode and they will most likely click on any link on a download page. By strategically setting up a P.S. to a related product, you can maximize your chance to score another sale.

(7) Promote!

Last but not least, don’t be a freeloader. There are tracking scripts to gauge your performance and if word gets around that you never send any traffic to giveaway events, don’t expect people to invite you to their parties again.
